Story of Tulsi Sunar (F)
Tulsi Sunar’s life has been marked by trials, yet she stands as a beacon of beauty, strength, and quiet resilience. At just a young age, this young woman from Syangja has faced challenges that would have broken many, yet she has emerged stronger, more determined, and full of hope for the future.
Born with an inflammatory disorder of the spine, Tulsi has lived her entire life with pain and physical limitations. Unlike most people her age, she cannot lift heavy loads, and her mobility is restricted. Despite these challenges, Tulsi completed her secondary education, refusing to let her condition define her or limit her potential. But life was far from easy. The pain in her spine was constant, and despite wearing a belt to reduce the swelling, the condition persisted. Her family's financial situation only compounded her struggles. They couldn't afford the costly treatment she needed, and basic necessities like food and clothing were often out of reach. As she watched her brother, who is physically challenged from birth, and her mother struggle, Tulsi longed to help, but felt powerless due to her condition.
Yet, even in the darkest of times, a spark of hope remained. Tulsi’s brother, who had heard about the work of Yes Helping Hands, encouraged her to reach out to the organization. The promise of free training and the chance to contribute to her family’s well-being gave Tulsi the hope she so desperately needed.
When she joined Yes Helping Hands, her life began to change. She received three months of training, along with a food allowance, and started by knitting caps. Despite her physical limitations, Tulsi proved to be a quick learner and soon transitioned to the mending section, where she now knits sweaters. The environment at Yes Helping Hands, described by Tulsi as welcoming, calm, and supportive, provided her not just with a job, but with a sense of belonging. For the first time, she was able to support her family financially. A year into her journey with the organization, Tulsi has become the sole breadwinner for her family, bringing stability to their once-precarious situation. She now lives alone in Pokhara, a young woman far from home, but with newfound confidence in herself and her abilities.
The transformation in Tulsi’s life is nothing short of remarkable. From a girl who once struggled with low self-esteem due to her physical limitations, she has grown into a confident, skilled, and independent woman. The opportunity provided by Yes Helping Hands has not only changed her financial circumstances but has also empowered her to believe in herself.
Tulsi’s story is one of quiet courage and determination. She is deeply grateful to Yes Helping Hands for the golden opportunity they provided, and she draws inspiration daily from the dedication and hard work of those around her. "The journey of everyone here is really inspiring," she says. "When I see their dedication to work, I am amazed, and at the same time, I learn something new from them."
Tulsi Sunar is living proof that even in the face of overwhelming challenges, hope, resilience, and the right opportunities can light the way to a brighter future.
