Maina, a single mother of two, has spent her life fighting against all odds to provide for her son and daughter. For the past 18 years, she has raised them alone, without the support of her husband, carrying the weight of their well-being on her own shoulders. Maina’s journey is one of resilience, strength, and an unwavering commitment to her children’s future. Her life has been filled with hardship. Growing up in a poor household, Maina was unable to complete her education, dropping out after grade 3 due to financial constraints. After getting married, things didn’t improve for her. When her husband left, she was forced to take full responsibility for her children. The struggle to feed them and give them a decent life became her sole focus. Maina took on various jobs to survive, starting as a cook at Nic Hotel, where the work was exhausting, and the pay was minimal. She later moved on to Fresh House, where she spent 10 years cutting meat, sweeping floors, and cooking for the staff. Though the job was slightly better than her previous one, the income was still not enough to cover rent and meet her children’s basic needs. “I was unable to feed my children two meals a day,” she recalls painfully. “I had no support from my family. Even now, I have to bear this alone.” Despite the daily hardships, Maina never lost sight of her goal to give her children the education she never had. “Though I couldn’t complete my own education, I want my children to finish theirs. That’s why I have this courage to work tirelessly.” Maina’s determination to support her family kept her going. One day, her brother from the village told her about Yes Helping Hands and how they assist people in need. Desperate for a better opportunity, she visited the organization. Though she had no prior experience in this kind of work, Yes Helping Hands welcomed her with open arms, offering her three months of free training along with a food allowance. Maina was overwhelmed with gratitude. "I was confused at first,” she admits. “I didn’t know what I could do, but I was given free training, and that made all the difference. I left my job at Fresh House after getting this opportunity, and the work here is better, the pay is better.” Maina now works in the mending section, labeling sweaters and attaching buttons with pride. The environment at Yes Helping Hands is supportive, with everyone working together in harmony. “I feel great when our sir motivates us. Everyone here is understanding and helpful.” Her hard work and perseverance have not only allowed her to provide for her family but have also filled her with a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth. Maina is proud to be part of an organization that understands her struggles and has given her the chance to better her life. “I am so proud to be here,” she says, her voice filled with hope. “This type of factory should be opened in more places, helping people like me. I pray to God that this company will continue to grow and succeed.” Maina’s story is a testament to the power of love and determination. Through her relentless work and the support of Yes Helping Hands, she has found a way to give her children the future she always dreamed of, proving that no obstacle is too great for a mother’s unbreakable will.
